London September 30 Frederick Edlin Smith first Earl of Birkenhead statesman died just before noon after an extended illness with bronchial trouble. He was 58. His crowded political life included the role as prosecutor of Sir Roger Casement, Lord High Chancellor, and Secretary of State for India. A bulletin said he passed peacefully away at seven fifteen this morning after a relapse and lung trouble.
