Lunenburg Nova Scotia September 24 Lauri Freener a swimming expert allegedly tried to resist arrest on a serious charge by leaping into the harbor waters from a boat two hundred yards from shore He swam to shake off pursuers but wind and tide aided police and he was hauled from the water nearly unconscious.

Robbed Host With False Check Fined In Magistrate Court

Norman Fowler appeared before Magistrate this morning charged with obtaining money under false pretenses. He was fined $25 in costs and ordered to restitute the money obtained. The offense dates from August 28 through which Fowler stayed with Col Parsons near Pashtie and drew a check for 835 on a bank in Calgary claiming to have transferred 2000 dollars from another account in California.

Submarine Seal Disaster Reported Off Block Island

New York dispatch notes that 35 US Navy personnel aboard the submarine Seal were lost after a collision with the coastwise steamer City of Rome near Block Island, with only three survivors named as Dewey Kile Mi Lira and A Greer, and Lieut Rodney Jh Dobson commanding the sub. The first alert came to the New London submarine base via a City of Rome message.
