Michael Hood of Bella Coola B C came to Kelowna to look for work as an apprentice mechanic. He bought a Wild Card scratch ticket and initially thought he won 1000 dollars but after scratching the extra space discovered a 25000 dollar prize. Hood said competition for mechanic jobs is strong in his hometown due to few garages.
Eight UN peacekeepers were wounded when their armored car struck a land mine at a government checkpoint near Sarajevo. Capt Ian Anderson sustained a broken arm. seven others, including British and Egyptian personnel, were not seriously hurt as the vehicle ran onto the road shoulder to bypass a barrier.
