An explosion on Saturday night tore through a stage during a Davao City beauty pageant as the winner was announced. Police say a fragmentation grenade likely caused the blast, killing at least 13 and wounding an undetermined number of others. No motive or perpetrators identified.
Paramilitary guerrillas stormed a maximum security jail in eastern Sri Lanka on Friday night releasing more than 200 prisoners. Police said 44 of the escapees were guerrillas awaiting trial for attacks on security forces and bank robberies.
