Edmonton forecasts a mainly clear night with frost in most districts as a cold air mass shifts southward into Tuesday. Yesterday's highs and lows included Calgary 66 35 and Edmonton 68 47 with no precipitation noted.
The United Packinghouse Workers of America won an 18 percent package increase in a 20 month contract with Canada Packers Ltd. affecting about 5 000 workers in eight plants across Canada including 175 in Calgary negotiations continue with Burns and Co Ltd and Swift Canadian Co Ltd employing about 5 000 further workers.

A bottled note from trapper William Couture led Canadian authorities in Dawson to confirm his death in hospital on August 20 after a heart attack on June 14. Major John Orr and companions found Couture’s raft after a 150 mile voyage from Fort Yukon, sending word to Eagle.
A 14 year old boy was charged with delinquency in the slaying of Wayne Mallette a seven year old visiting from Seeleys Bay Ont. The child was found dead under bushes at the Canadian National Exhibition grounds in Toronto on September 16 after being choked. Inspector John Nimmo stated murder charges would not be filed.
The murder trial of Lenore Bicknell, a 20 year old expectant mother, charged with shooting her husband Bruce Bicknell 22, was postponed indefinitely as she remains in hospital awaiting the birth of her baby. authorities note the baby has not yet been born. The case had earlier shifts in accounts and statements from her.
A coroner has ordered an inquest this Thursday into the death of 71 year old George Wensel, a Medicine Hat lumber yard foreman, who died after a two car collision near Brooks Saturday night. Six others were hospitalized, including Emil Proulx and Mrs Anna Wensel. Wensel was the passenger in a car driven by his daughter Martha.
