London reports say the Government plans a broad round-up of Communist propagandists and agitators. Home Office and Scotland Yard conferences led to orders for an energetic campaign to deport around fifty foreign Reds amid efforts to suppress alleged mutinous activity in Britain’s armed forces.
Portland Ore Sept Big gathering of Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodges convened in the public auditorium with Dr A Johnson and Leary Young presiding. Grand Sire Herbert A Thompson urged world wide admission to the order and examined lodge homes while urging stronger supervision and broader liberal registration on race. Delegates discussed resisting a Filipino law forcing lodge books to be opened to native officials.

Lethbridge, Sept 23. Seven thousand acres of beets will yield about 75 000 tons for the Canadian Sugar Refineries Ltd factory at Raymond. The plant with 1000 tons daily capacity will test this week and aims for full operation by October 10 employing 220 men. The beet sugar product will be sold as Crystal.

He points to American data showing a drop in migration in the past year.
London Ontario report notes Liberals will not field a candidate in the coming general election. Port Arthur Ontario September 28 Hector Belanger engine driver is killed and two trainmen injured in a collision of freight trains on the Canadian National Railway about 105 miles west of New. An operator at the station sent a yard engine in pursuit but failed to avert the crash. Chicago September 25 after a year in Joliet penitentiary Leopold Sr and Richard Loeb have moved from factory tasks to element work in the shoe department. Leopold is nearly a model prisoner while Loeb remains in the yard or cleaning duties.
General weakness in grain markets hit Winnipeg with declines led by Chicago and Minneapolis mood. Annapolis Royal Nova Scotia September 23 Vernon Waugh of Clementsport suddenly became insane and began a rampage with an axe. He injured a cow and damaged a carriage. Neighbors and his parents were threatened as he fled into the woods and remained at large.
The Daily Mail reports a New York radio warning caused a rushed search for a bomb on the Berengaria, 1,200 miles from New York toward Southampton. Passengers and crew evacuated for a drill. cables scorched but no bomb trace found.
Winnipeg September 23 The Ford Motor Company launches a Detroit built car on the first trans Canada automobile tour from Halifax to Vancouver without crossing into the United States. The journey uses Canadian Pacific tracks where dirt roads lack and showcases Canada for world advertising. Dr S P E B Doolittle leads routing with Canadian Automobile Association while local clubs assist and mayors arrange filming for civic promotion.
