The mosaic in Dan MacCharles Park between Third St and Prospect Dr SW is set for 5 30 pm opening today. The park honors physicians who pioneered the West and is named for Dr D N MacCharles of 874 Second St SE. A plaque dedication phrase is pending final committee decision.
Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy announced a federal grand jury indictment of Canadian companies and 24 individuals plus an American in Canada and a Bahamas company for a 7 million dollar phantom nickel mine stock fraud. The 29 counts allege unregistered shares sold by mail and phone from Canada to U.S. buyers using worthless New Brunswick leases. Names include Canam Investments Limited, Rock Holdings Limited, Global Investments Limited. key figures allegedly built up the scheme to appear large and ongoing.
LETHBRIDGE CP reports sugar factory officials lifted all controls on the sugar beet harvest. Growers urged to begin as field conditions permit to avoid disruption at the Taber and Picture Butte plants. Harvest of about 40 000 acres started last weekend with 90 percent machine harvested and a strong labor force available.
