London reports confusion as Soviet Russia withholds wheat data. About 400000 tons reportedly sent to London in two months. Moscow tests refuse. Grain traders say Russian wheat is good but inferior to Canadian. Paris and London fear the regime, pressed for funds, may starve its people to dump exports.
League of Nations hearing hears Romanian Minister Virgil Madgeru warn that Soviet agricultural dumping endangers Romania and other Southeastern European exporters. Edmonton Sept 22 Missing from home since Sunday afternoon three children aged four to eleven are being sought in brush country near Whitecourt Alberta. Searchers tramped the area all night as showers fell and Whitecourt mills closed while townspeople join the search effort for the boy and two girls.
Ottawa Sept 26 The Senate sits as the House of Commons continues tariff change discussions aiming for action by day’s end. Saturday saw the Senate adjourn after a brief sitting and the House approving about fifty proposed tariff changes.
The C P R reports a sprinkling of rain on the western part of the division over the weekend with no rain east of Medicine Hat.
Peraiva H. Rubidet, longtime agent for Yorkshire Insurance Co, fell from a balcony outside his third floor room at the Commercial Hotel in Vancouver early this morning. The body was found by a hotel employee. a sister and wife survive. Rubidet was well known in the city and had a long business association with Pat Fewinga.
Ottawa reports a clause to exempt bona fide contracts dated before September 16 from the new tariff rates. The exemption period allows imports under this clause until December 1. Hon R B Bennett said he would introduce an amendment in the House of Commons to cover this.
