Cory Dale Strandberg 23 pleaded guilty in Regina Provincial Court to fraud over 5000 and breaches after he and his supervisor stole 35000 dollars in lottery tickets from a Macs store between September and December 2004. He redirected winners and faced a 186 day sentence and a court order allowing Macs to seek 50669.55 dollars. Strandberg offered to repay if pursued.
A gray squirrel found a way into a Hibbing Minnesota bird feeder packed with sunflower seeds on Tuesday. The incident shows wildlife exploiting weak feeder defenses in a residential yard.
A local man required a two hour surgery Tuesday to fix an ankle broken in a two car collision Monday afternoon on Parkview Drive S.E. A 22002 Chevrolet Silverado traveling northbound turned left and struck a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire. The Sunfire driver was hospitalized and underwent surgery Tuesday. he is expected to be released later this week. The Silverado driver was charged with making an unsafe left turn. Damages totaled about $10,000 for the car and $3,000 for the truck.
Medicine Hat News reports Cypress County Council unanimously approved a dog bylaw amendment. First offences rise to a $100 fine from $30, with subsequent violations doubling to as much as $1,000. Violations include dogs at large, failing to clean up, excess dogs, teasing or tormenting a dog, and improper dog tag use.
Calgary police veteran Kirk McCallum, 23 years on the force, is accused of running a Ponzi scheme that defrauded 59 people of about 1.5 million dollars. His defence lawyer argued McCallum was merely trusting and duped by partner Daryl Heiligsetzer into the illicit hockey equipment business.
