A report from Pas, Man dated September 20 claims the Hudson's Bay Company conducted secret mining on the east coast of Hudson's Bay for 200 years. It alleges a mine at Little Whale River yielding silver, dating back to 1710, with activity by the Little Whale post factor and men.

Fire at 11 80 this morning totally destroyed the east wing of the Shaughnessy Military Convalescent Hospital in Vancouver B C None of the patients were injured and all inmates and equipment were moved to safety. The fire rushed through the building and the east wing became a furnace. The hospital was to be inspected by the Prince of Wales on Monday. Stanley Cressman, escaped from Dorchester was recaptured near Sackville N S.
An evening Kirkwall dispatch reports a White Star Liner ashore north of Ronaldshay during a gale. It is said 2,000 troops from Northern Russia are aboard. The ministry later said the liner had been refloated and proceeded to her destination. the vessel is the Vodice of 5,755 tons net, hauled off by warships and tugs.
By noon today the High School boys and girls collected 1500 in pledges for the gymnasium fund. Many homes were empty or asked cheques be mailed to the News Gym as the canvass continues. An additional 1000 is needed before the next week to hire an instructor and proceed with plans.
Capt. C. 8 Pingle received a telegram from Capt. Fred McCall stating he would be in Medicine Hat for business on Thursday morning Sept 25 weather permitting. Flights will be made from the Exhibition grounds and citizens desiring a trip in the clouds should be on hand early.
