Ottawa The Bank of Canada rate fell to 9.44 per cent on Thursday from 9.40 per cent the prior week. The move marks a small easing in the central bank’s lending rate as financial conditions remain tight.
Walter Stubb Ross, 56, founder of Lethbridge Air Service and Time Air Ltd, died Monday in Alberta. A memorial service was held Thursday. Ross started with three employees and a Beachcraft in 1966, once ferried passengers in a Volkswagen to the airport, later building a regional airline.

New Democrat MP Svend Robinson released transcripts of CSIS wiretaps from May 1986. The records show CSIS knew Punjabi Planning Minister Malikat Singh Sidhu would visit British Columbia and that Sikhs might confront him, but the RCMP was not informed in time. Sidhu was shot on Vancouver Island on May 25, 1986 and recovered.
