Canada, U S Delay Global Mine Ban Talks One Day

Negotiations on a Canadian inspired treaty to ban anti personnel mines were postponed for 24 hours after the United States sought more time to reach an acceptable compromise. Prime Minister Chretien and President Clinton spoke overnight about the delay as Canada supports keeping the agreement intact and urges swift signing. More than 100 nations meet in Oslo to draft the ban which would prevent tens of thousands of civilian deaths annually.

Lawsuit: 54-Year-Old Sues Major Supermarket Firm

Leslie Alan Roberts, 54, a 35-year veteran of American Stores, sues over alleged anti discrimination citing a supervisor calling him a fat slob. Roberts, who has diabetes and obesity related health issues, claims harassment after Craig Herbert arrived as supervisor and increased his weekly hours to as many as 60.
