Mounties took control of the Westray coal mine under a search warrant in Plymouth Nova Scotia to conduct an underground evidence gathering expedition. RCMP spokesman Bill Price said officers will proceed slowly over weeks as Westray officials refuse to cooperate and Curragh Inc warned of risks to lives and mine stability. Dust samples seized may reveal coal dust control and fire retardant measures.
