Miss Betty Reid, a local entrant, won the Mrs. McCordick cup for the second time after defeating representatives from Calgary and Edmonton Eaton stores in the annual match at the Golf and Country club course. Winds were high but play remained steady as Reid outgolfed Miss M Robertson of Edmonton and Miss M Casson of Calgary. A dinner at Cecil hotel followed, where Mrs. H McNeill presented the trophy on behalf of Mrs. McCordick amid congratulatory messages from Mrs. McCordick and Calgary Edmonton stores.
Walter Inkerman Ross an 80 year old Lethbridge rancher and railway contractor died early Sunday. A Calgary to Cardston settler, he helped build the Lake Superior to western Canada line and ran the Brown Ranching Co. in Alberta before retiring to Lethbridge. Survived by son George and daughter who died in infancy, with brothers and sisters across Montana Ontario and California.
Edmonton reports the first duck hunting death of the season as 40 year old Harry McKerran drowned at Cooking Lake after his boat drifted away and became mired in the mud. He was the son of early Edmonton settler Robert McKerran and his mother lives in Calgary.
The Canadian Wheat Board announced purchase prices for most wheat grades from producers on a carrot basis. Feed wheat is excluded. Prices listed cover No. 1 hard through No. 6, No. 4 and No. 5 specials, durum and rejected lots, with numerous grade and price figures in cents.
Wheat futures rose three cents at the Winnipeg grain exchange amid bullish activity and export demand. October 93 4, December 94 1/2, May 97 1/2 cents. over 2,000,000 bushels traded for export as international markets stir speculation and fears of European conflict.
Charles Boujie of Saskatoon was sentenced to six years with one year to serve in a labor in the penitentiary for attempting the Langdon branch robbery of the Royal Bank of Canada. The case identifies Boujie as Donald Nault alias. The incident occurred near Calgary with authorities naming the two assailants.
