Tremors shake Kalamata after deadly weekend quake

In Kalamata Greece a 5.6 magnitude quake struck at 2 41 pm local time injuring 37 and damaging two more apartment blocks after aftershocks of 4.1 and 3.8. The epicenter matched Saturday’s 6.2 quake and communications with Athens were cut.

Fourth blast in a week strikes Paris police HQ

Time Air emergency landing in Calgary after gear failure

A Time Air Beechcraft 99 with 12 passengers and two crew made an emergency landing in Calgary after the left landing gear failed to deploy. The aircraft circled the airport for two hours to burn off fuel and finally tipped onto its left side but no injuries were reported. Undercarriage and one wing were damaged.

Memories spark Terry Fox Run across Canada and world

Canadians across the country joined the sixth Terry Fox Run to honor the late cancer activist. Veterans like John Andrews recalled Fox’s fundraising spirit as Rick Hansen paused his world wheelchair odyssey in Sherbrooke to participate. Thousands took part by running walking cycling or wheelchairs to raise funds for cancer research.

Marathon of Hope run’s reach and final cancer pause noted

Medicine Hat aided the Marathon of Hope in St John’s and Thunder Bay before it ended in September 1980 after cancer was found in Terry Fox’s lungs. Fox died in June 1981 at 22 and is buried in Port Coquitlam. His grandmother Mary Anne Wark, 76, completed the Melita Man leg in a wheelchair raising about $250. Organizers expect a new yearly total near $4 million with early reports over $2 million from 39 percent of sites Sunday night.
