Wildlife officers hunt a black bear after it attacked a man fishing at Jumpingpound Creek north of Cochrane. The victim escaped with leg injuries and was treated at local hospitals. officers will use a DNA sample from the chewed fishing rod to identify the bear.
Gasoline prices rose across North America as Gulf Coast refinery shutdowns tied to Hurricane Ike tighten supply. Analysts warn the spike may last 10 to 14 days or more with stations out of gasoline, while Canada sees similar pressure and prices near 143.9 per litre in Medicine Hat.
A University of Calgary professor from the Haskayne School of Business cautioned that gasoline consumers should not panic if Hurricane Ike damages North American refineries. He noted prices spiked in Canada, but short-term volatility will ease as production resumes.
