Health deal boosts federal health transfers to provinces
Ottawa and the premiers signed an accord to raise federal health transfers to 18.3 billion dollars next year with a path to 21 billion by 2005 06. Prime Minister Jean Chretien said the money restores funding while premiers urged more and blamed timing for shortfalls. Ontario’s Mike Harris called it a good first step and demanded additional funds. Ujjal Dosanjh said BC would finance deficits locally if needed.
