Car crash injures two in Co-op parking lot

A Medicine Hat senior citizen and a female passenger were hospitalized with minor injuries after a 1997 Chrysler backed into a parked SUV, then sped forward striking power poles and a garbage container before stopping against the Co-op building. Police say a walking cane jammed the gas pedal. Damage exceeds $18,000.

Phones Found In Prison In El Salvador Inmates

A photo from the Penal Centers of El Salvador shows a cellular telephone recovered from the intestines of a prisoner at the Zacatecoluca maximum security facility. Four phones were found in the intestines of as many inmates, authorities said.

Bartender in Kansas Gets 10000 Dollar Tip

Cindy Kienow of Hutchinson received about 6300 dollars after taxes from the Applebee's owner share of a 10000 dollar tip left by a regular customer on a 26 dollar meal. The customer paid by credit card and remains unidentified as restaurant officials confirm the gesture. The event drew international media interest and drew comments from patrons about changing routines at the bar.

Historic program on preserving Medicine Hat heritage workshop

Medicine Hat and area residents are invited to a Sept 28 workshop at the Medalta Gallery about Alberta's Municipal Heritage Partnership Program. Program staff will explain offerings to municipalities and answer questions, with the session running 1 30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 713 Medalta Avenue.

Improvements set for highway 52 in Cypress County

Cypress County council approved a 2 million dollar plan to upgrade Highway 52 linking to Highway 41 ten kilometers south of Schuler and to the Saskatchewan border. The project will pave the border segment with funding sought from a 75 25 cost share with the province, and costs above 2 million could trigger a reconsideration.

Dalai Lama Celebrates Honorary Canadian Citizenship

The Dalai Lama says he is proud to have honorary Canadian citizenship granted by Parliament earlier this summer amid Chinese criticism.
