Ottawa reports the chronology of key dates for the November 8 federal general election. Sept. 7 the prime minister receives governor-general consent to dissolve Parliament and set voting day. Balloting runs through Nov. 8 with advance polls Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 and armed forces voting Nov. 1–6.
An underwater explosion on a bridge caisson near Trois-Rivieres killed an estimated 12 men with six more believed trapped in a submerged chamber. Victims hailed from Montreal and the Trois-Rivieres area. one body recovered. The bridge, 5,000 feet long and valued at $30,000,000, aimed for a 1967 completion.
