Brooks Accused seeks psych test in standoff case
In Medicine Hat News, 38 year old James Frederick McCormack who held a 13 hour standoff in Brooks on September 1 has requested a psychiatric assessment and adjourned charges to October 10. He allegedly robbed a person at gunpoint of two weapons and a cellphone then surrendered after lengthy negotiations. The request was granted. Crown says no evidence of mental illness in medical records. He will be sent to Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Services Centre in Calgary for assessment. He faces 11 charges including robbery with a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
