Ottawa reports a government poll found most Canadians favor federal agricultural policies, said by Agriculture Minister Eugene Whelan in a taped CTV interview. He declined to reveal poll details and warned that disclosing findings would alert opposition leader Joe Clark.

In New York City a five day old died after a starving German shepherd attacked it while mother Joanne Bashold left to obtain food money. Bashold, 24, was charged with negligent homicide as the 15 pound dog was destroyed for examination. she faced arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.
