Rome AP reports Bruno Pontecorvo the nuclear physicist who defected to the Soviet Union in 1950 has returned to Italy for a two day scientific meeting in honor of Edoardo Amaldi. Pontecorvo who worked in Canada the United States Britain and France slipped to the Soviet Union in 1950 with his family after a career tied to Fermi and the early nuclear program.
