Washington Appointment For Hopkins

The International Monetary Fund announced the appointment of H. G. Hopkins editor of The Medicine Hat News to its information office. Hopkins will leave The News October 1 after joining in February 1958 and previously worked with multiple Canadian papers and his own publishing firm. IMF details include 70 nations, Bretton Woods origin, and Per Jacobsson as managing director with Louis Rasminsky as Canada’s director.

Dallas Integrates Schools Without Incident

In Dallas Texas eighteen Negro first graders entered eight previously all white schools as police directing traffic reported no incidents. Superintendent W T White announced all eighteen Negro students assigned to white schools were inside by 9 45 am with no problems. Galveston also saw thirty five Negro students begin classes at formerly all white elementary schools.

Three Die In Crash On Port au Port Peninsula

Three men Morgan Snook aged 63 T. J. Smith 67 and Richard J. Skinner 38 all of Lourdes were killed when a station wagon collided with a three ton oil truck at Abraham's Cove on the Port au Port Peninsula. Seven people were injured and transported to hospital. Truck driver Marshall King escaped injury and said brakes failed on a steep hill.

Police recover holster amid Havelock bank robbery probe

Ontario police chase leads across bush for cash and securities stolen at gunpoint last week. Staff Sgt. Stan Palmateer led 14 officers on a 75 mile trail as five men are captured and charged with armed robbery. Authorities found a gun holster and clothing possibly belonging to the bandits Tuesday night.

City Plans Brief for Airline Case in Medicine Hat

Alberta Wheat Harvest Earliest in 25 Years

Alberta's harvest is ahead of normal with 87 percent of wheat cut and 63 percent threshed by Sept. 2 according to the Alberta Wheat Pool. Oats cut 71 percent and threshing 41 percent. barley 83 percent cut and 59 percent threshed. Average wheat yield forecast at 15.5 bushels per acre, well below the 19.4 average of the past 20 years.

RCMP Seek U S Negro Wanted in North Carolina

RCMP sought Robert Franklin Williams a 36 year old American Negro described as a pro Cuba campaigner. Authorities said warrants for kidnapping were issued in Munroe North Carolina after a gunpoint abduction at the Williams residence. Williams reportedly attended Fair Play for Cuba Committee meetings in Vancouver Toronto and Montreal and hoped to reach Cuba.

Plane Crashes in Atlantic Off Bermuda

A U.S. WB-60 reconnaissance plane from Kindley Field weather squadron crashed at sea near Bermuda. Five crew were aboard. at least one survivor was reported. A 20-man liferaft was dropped and one crew member was seen entering it.
