Medicine Hat post office site choices in draft stage

Ottawa reports the public works department has a new Medicine Hat post office on the drafting bed with decisions pending. An appropriation for 1957-58 remains possible but tight budgets may force reconsideration of all projects. Two sites near Fifth Ave are favored, with one at Second St and Fifth Ave facing the main block. The current post office is overcrowded and a new facility may cost about 2 million dollars, depending on whether the present quarters are retained.

Glass workers vote on union representation at Dominion Glass

About 500 employees at Dominion Glass Company in Redcliff will vote next Tuesday on whether to retain the United Mine Workers union for bargaining or switch to the United Glass and Ceramics Workers. The Ceramics union already represents Dominion Glass staff at Montreal Toronto and Wallaceburg plants. Henry G. Rhodes, CLC prairie regional director, arrived in Redcliff as UMW brass from Toronto may respond with an officer from the east.
