Rotary and Kiwanis Welcome Medicine Hat Visit

Havre Rotary and Kiwanis clubs visit Medicine Hat for a two day goodwill mission with 20 carloads of members and guests. The gathering includes a Friday reception at the Assiniboia Hotel and a Saturday luncheon at the Corona Hotel. The event highlights cross border fellowship between Havre and Medicine Hat clubs and notes long standing ties across the U.S.-Canada border.

Large Entry and Kees Day a Great Such Large Entry

The field day by the Olympic Club at Athletic Park featured keen events and strong youth entries. Lethbridge topped the meet with 143 points, Medicine Hat 97, with G ton and G Walker of Lethbridge leading individual scoring and Edith Wade among high jump winners. Runners and relays highlighted open and junior divisions as Redcliff hosted the Caledonian Society race.

French aviator Coste to begin Atlantic flight on Monday

Captain Dieudonne Coste and co pilot Maurice Hellente prepared to fly the Question Mark from Le Bourget toward New York. The craft held the world long distance record for sustained flight and passed Cape Race Newfoundland en route with radio contact to St Pierre station reporting all aboard well.

Special Session Parliament to Pay Members by Day Rate

Ottawa reports the special session starting September 8 will pay members 25 dollars per day if the 51 day minimum for full indemnity is not met. Government aims to relieve unemployment while facing opposition, with closure as a possible tactic but not yet used.

Explosion kills two at Kitchener sewer plant

A gas explosion at the Boon Ontario sewer plant in Kitchener this morning killed two men and seriously injured a third. Authorities reported the incident occurred at the new facility and are investigating the cause.

Drunken RCMP Constable shoots woman at Manitoba-Sask picnic

At a Manitoba Saskatchewan boundary picnic 65 miles from Dauphin a Royal Canadian Mounted Police constable opened fire after a drinking event. Sophie Light 26 suffered a fatal or critical wound with a bullet to the abdomen and died early today while Constable J Pitt was jailed awaiting murder or manslaughter charges.

Alberta Grand Lodge Holds Annual Convention Here

Alberta Grand Lodge of the Sons of England met in Twaitea Hall with sessions on lodge business and an election of officers. Elected were E. J. Friend provincial grand president, W. M. Stanley past grand president, C. W. Twaites grand vice president, H. J. Noble re-elected grand secretary, J. C. Cadwell grand treasurer, J. Hornwell and H. J. Cox grand auditors. Delegates to the Supreme Lodge were Hartley Noble of Medicine Hat and a Calgary member. Mayor Baillivant welcomed the delegates. A banquet followed with toasts and speeches, then a group photo at Riverside Park and a final dance.

Burwash Heads North as Arctic Flight Underway

A radio message reports Major L. T. Burwash and pilot W. H. Gilbert left Fort Hearne Aug 26 in a giant plane toward the Arctic region where Sir John Franklin and 129 died 83 years ago. W. A. Buchanan, Western Canada Airways pilot, supplies gas at Fort Hearne and awaits at Hunter Bay on Great Bear Lake in case aid is needed.

Bratvaag Arrives In Tronsoe With Andree Finds
