Alberta mulls provincial police plan amid cost concerns
A PricewaterhouseCoopers study says Alberta could cost about 735 million each year plus 366 million startup to run a provincial force, but shareable savings and better frontline policing could follow. Justice Minister Kaycee Madu says funding would come without tax hikes or municipal levies. The plan would create an arm's length board with municipal First Nations and provincial reps and seek municipal service sharing. Alberta Urban Municipalities Association cautions gaps remain and suggests a referendum if pursued.
