Wal-Mart Evacuated After Bomb Threat in Medicine Hat Store

A bomb threat prompted evacuation of Medicine Hat Wal-Mart on Dunmore Road near the Trans-Canada Highway. Police and explosives experts searched a suspicious box. it contained stock and the store reopened at 8:30 p.m. Investigators are reviewing the incident.

Manning faces voter anger over Stornoway residence

An Angus Reid poll shows nine percent of Canadians forgive Preston Manning for ridiculing the $2 million Stornoway mansion and moving in. Forty five percent say it is not right for the Reform leader to use Stornoway while six percent are unsure. Manning says the controversy may fade. The Mannings have furnished the mansion at $111,390, far above prior estimates, hosting up to 22 guests.

Amber Dickson Honored in Army Cadet Funeral Service

About 650 mourners, including 600 plus cadets and friends, attended Amber Dickson's funeral at Patterson Armoury in Calgary. The service featured army cadet rites, eulogies by Miles Johnson and Pastor John Patterson, and a bagpiper with Dickson's beret and flag draped casket. Police say she was found dead October 14. her father Gerald Mayhew, 38, faces a first degree charge and returns to court November 4.

Army tightens belt on 1997 98 budget in Canada
