Bob Olson defeated Randy Turpin in a 15 round Madison Square Garden bout to retain the middleweight title. The crowd of 18,869 saw Olson land the cleaner blows while Turpin fought gamely but could not overcome the punishment. Olson earned $55,625 with Turpin also paid the same purse.
Carlson Bobo Olson defeated Randy Turpin in a 15 round bout to claim the world middleweight crown. Olson said he took his time early and wore Turpin down, noting the ropes exposed Turpin’s weakness and delivering knockdowns in the ninth and tenth rounds.
