Civil Supreme Court lis set for Medicine Hat sittings

Twenty one civil actions will be tried by Justice John El. Macdonald when supreme court sittings open in Medicine Hat on May 25. The agenda lists 17 suits for judicial separations and decrees nisi, four for decrees absolute. No criminal actions are included.

Burstall Sees Ogopogo Confirmed in Local River

Burstall residents Aly and Mrs Alvin Altand report sighting of a 10 foot brown furred ogopogo along the South Saskatchewan near a beaver dam. The group says it is not an otter or beaver and remains a river monster, seen 200 feet away and swimming near rocks.

Cancer Fund Total Reaches New High Of 5899

The Medicine Hat Cancer Society reports a fund total of 5899 with delayed contributions boosting the campaign. New donations include Assiniboia Chapter No.3 Royal Arch Masons, Memorial Chapter No.97 Order of the Eastern Star, Whitla residents, Tom Dunn, W.ON Babe, and Mrs Orville Lyon, each giving five dollars. A letter from an unidentified writer thanks the society for assisting with travel to Rochester for medical care and credits the organization with a near miracle through the local effort.

In Manchester a 12 year old boy told a court he has not attended school for four years. He said he misses classes and faces ongoing issues. The case centers on his education and guardianship.

Composite High Round-Up

The Composite High Round-Up reports initiation events last Friday with a dance in the auditorium ending the 1949-50 initiation.
