Medicine Hat runner wins bronze at Alberta cross country
Mighicine Hat College athlete Celeste Champigny claimed bronze in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference cross country final in Grande Prairie finishing the four kilometre race in 16 59. The 18 year old from St Walburg Sask said she aimed to push hard and was pleased with her time. Teammate Lisa Pahl placed 13rd and Elizabeth Bouvier 29th in the women s race. The men finished 8th overall in the eight kilometre event led by Craig Love 11th Jeff Hughes 12th Shawn Brade 24th and Carl Bahnmiller 49th. Love Hughes Champigny and Pahl qualified for Western championships in Kelowna on Nov 2.

Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club swimmer Dalton of the girls 10-year-old group won three events including 50m freestyle 50m backstroke and 25m butterfly in Lethbridge. Other AMAC results feature Erin Swain Candice Lutz Jennifer Able Jera Mulligan Scott Butgerell and Eric Walker earning podiums across ages 9 to 13 with multiple wins and top finishes.

Cubs struggle in weekend hockey setback
Cubs baseball style misprint aside, the Cubs scraped a single point in two International Hockey League games. They lost 5-1 to the Rangers in Brooks on Sunday while Medicine Hat squandered a 6-2 third period lead to tie the Kainai Chiefs 6-6 at the Eriplex on Saturday. Cubs coach Larry Plante said the team will turn it around as line combinations settle, with Sam Gust scoring the lone Cubs goal at Brooks and Colin Yuhas netting a hat trick the previous day. The Cubs sit 0-2-1 and host the Stavely Rockmen Friday at the Kinplex.
