Emergency broadcast change suggested for Medicine Hat
Emergency planners propose Medicine Hat become an in shelter community with a local emergency broadcast system. Residents would register contact details and receive alerts by landline cell phone email and text plus social media. The system would work alongside the Provincial Emergency Broadcast System for a two pronged approach.

Berming project underway in Harlow for flood protection
Crews began clearing trees and routing an earthen dike on Harris Street and Red Deer Drive as MJB Enterprises won a 3.7 million dollar contract for Phase I. The project follows the 2013 flood and is one of eight berms planned along the South Saskatchewan River. A portion of Harris Street will be fenced with two traffic lanes and no on street parking. An Oct 15 open house in the Esplanade Studios will outline timelines. A longer berm through Lions Park is planned this autumn with bids closing Oct 16.
