An elderly couple, Mr and Mrs Onofre Battwa of Lachine, were found dead with severe head injuries likely from blunt force. police suggest revenge as the motive and Stanislaus Tomachuk is held as a witness. Dora Buatura testified Tomachuk asked for marriage six weeks earlier and was rejected by the couple.
Ottawa reports a new regulation granting four years notice of cancellation for grazing leases in Manitoba Saskatchewan Alberta Peace River district and British Columbia replacing the previous three year period. The change aims to give ranchers time to manage stock before land reversion.
On the league’s final assembly day, Canada’s annual contribution to League expenses was set to be substantially reduced next year. The meeting also considered repaying parts of this year's contributions to Canada and other nations judged to have been overcharged, with reimbursement tied to future League surplus.

The color party, with a pipe band, departs from 2nd Street Armouries at 10:50 p.m. and arrives at St. John’s at 12:10 a.m. to depose the Colors in a solemn ceremony. All returned men are invited to attend.
The Lacombe Liberal convention nominated Dr Michael Clark for the Red Deer federal riding after A D Mulkenzie's withdrawal. McKenzie opposed Clark, signaling the party division, and the convention adjourned with plans to reconvene within a week.

Wilfrid Meharg, age 22, found guilty yesterday of murdering Dr. E Whitworth of Binbrook on December 23. Sentencing to follow. In a separate incident, Joseph Elmhurst of Peterboro was dragged to death while a horse was being sent to pasture.
At a Liberal Executive meeting last evening, a resolution authorized President G. L. Fraser to call a Liberal convention on Friday October 21 for nominating a candidate to contest the Medicine Hat federal constituency. Prominent Liberals attended and agreed a candidate should be placed in the field in support of Liberal principles.

He cites 1909 to 1919 data showing Canada admitted far more settlers than Australia or South Africa, and argues anti Canadian propaganda shifts sentiment. Total bushels distributed and $21,510 value are noted with an average $45.38 per farmer and 41 to 50 bushels per farm across districts such as Medicine Hat Coutts Traverse Empress Manvherries and Lethbridge. After a week and two days of talks at a round table conference the mediation attempt by the Railway Conciliation Board Canadian railways and five railway brotherhoods failed to reach agreement on the 12 per wage cut. The conference is abandoned and the board will prepare its own recommendation for Ottawa.
