A one-ton firecraft repair truck caught fire on the Trans-Canada Highway near an overpass in Medicine Hat Friday morning. The driver escaped unharmed, police closed the highway for about an hour, and firefighters used Class B foam to control the blaze as the rear of the truck burned and fuel ignited. The vehicle was a write-off.

Two young boys were released hours apart by suspected thieves who commandeered the family minivan and held them at knifepoint near Sherwood Park. A baby was released earlier. the suspects surrendered after a police standoff with about 30 officers and an Edmonton helicopter overhead.
Mourners gathered at Stake Centre in Raymond for the funeral of Sharla Collier a 20 year old rehabilitation worker killed November 16 in the Oldman River valley. A 14 year old boy faces first degree murder charges. Reverend Henry Konrad led the service praising her life and faith with a poem read by Lylia Sweder and a hymn The Old Rugged Cross sung by attendees. A reception followed and burial took place at Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge.
