Food bank sees 148 percent rise in users since 2013
Medicine Hat and District Food Bank reports 585 families in October 2013 rising to 1,451 in October 2016. Co executive director Celina Symmonds notes last month 39 000 pounds of food were distributed and November figures expect 50 000 pounds. Changes allow families to choose items, lowering pounds per family but improving suitability. Officials warn demand will rise as Christmas nears and cash donations remain vital.
