Canada braced for UN torture grilling in 2009 briefing memo
Newly released memos show officials warned Justice Minister Rob Nicholson Canada would likely face tough questions from a UN committee on torture and related rights issues. The discussion covered prison overcrowding police use of force against demonstrators murdered aboriginal women redress for torture abroad and Canada’s stance on arresting former U S leaders for alleged war crimes.
