OTTAWA CP George Nowlan 66 former revenue and finance minister in the former Conservative government died suddenly in hospital. He entered Civic Hospital last Tuesday for a general checkup with a tiring heart described by doctors. An associate said he appeared in good spirits when visited by Mrs Nowlan on Sunday.

A 54 year old city resident Jack Haas died after a gunshot wound in his garage. Police found a .22 rifle and no foul play. Separately Nova Scotian MP Nowlan, a tall rough voiced figure in Parliament, suffered a heart attack and returned to political duties after illness.

A 83 year old Winnifred farmer Jol Beggs was killed Sunday afternoon when struck by a freight train at the Center Street and First Avenue crossing in Bow Island. He had been living at Pleasant View Lodge for years.

Medicine Hat Kinsmen Club received two honors at the Alberta District convention in Edmonton over the weekend. George Renner, past president, was elected by acclamation as deputy district governor of zone 6, a provincial posting for the first time after 13 years in the local club. The Kin Rattler, the club bulletin edited by Bob Porter of Irvine, won the Southam Company award for best club paper in the district.
