Paris May 30 Germany completed the first 1 billion gold mark reparations payment under the peace treaty by delivering 20 treasury notes equal to 850 million gold marks to the Reparations Commission via a German courier who arrived from Berlin. Earlier Germany paid 150 million marks toward the total.
In Fierreville Quebec on May 29, Liberal candidate Aims Boucher won the Yamaska federal seat by about 1,608 over Liberal Conservative A. A. Moudy, with over 7,000 votes cast in a total of 8,206 ballots. 90 percent turnout and women voting as intensely as men. Final tallies pending.

Right Hon. W. J. Lowther speaker of the British House of Commons, traveled in a National Railways special car through Medicine Hat on the noon train during a Dominion tour. In London on May 20 the prime minister announced in the House of Commons that crown forces would be increased in Ireland and a formal statement would follow after arrangements are completed. He added that reservists would not be sent, confirming an earlier informal plan.
Margaret Obrey was fined 150 dollars plus costs for liquor for sale and an additional five dollars plus costs for possessing a revolver without a permit. The revolver was confiscated and sent to the Attorney General's department.
The International Labor Office reports Queensland forms a wheat growers board to track, store, and market the crop with railway cooperation. Ottawa May 30. It is expected that the resignations of J A Maharg Maple Creek and Hon N W Rowell Durham will be announced in the House of Commons within two or three days. Speaker Rhodes will announce them when received. Maharg leaves the federal progressive party for a Saskatchewan Government portfolio.
Sir Joseph Flavelle of Toronto elected chair of the deconstituted all Canadian Grand Trunk board. Howard G. Kelly reappointed director and president. others include J Narcisse Dupuis Montreal J L Newcombe Ottawa and Alfred J Mitchell Toronto. The board will govern the merged Grand Trunk Canadian National system with HQ likely moving to Toronto. Resignation of the English directors accepted and consolidation steps pushed ahead with arbitration resumes next Wednesday.
