J M Dillon of the Western Cattlemen's Association reports a satisfactory reply from Tariff Commission Chairman Thomas Marvin to the association’s May 15 letter. The commission notes readiness to cooperate if an investigation into the cattle industry is ordered and invites further correspondence.

Prosecution questioned his awareness of security steps and whether the theft was an inside job amid witness accounts of his presence at multiple places. Also noted were scholarship winners traveling to study Western farming and a drowning incident at Lake Nipissing.
An explosion at the Hercules Powder Company gelatine packing plant in Wayville II fatally injures five men and injures three. The packing plant is destroyed and several adjacent buildings suffer minor damage. cause of the blast is not yet known.
In Ottawa May 29 a heated house discussion centered on W R Motherwell's alleged election pledge to seek the removal of F R Carvell as chairman of the railway commissioners. C G Coote pressed for action while G P Graham said removal requires a house vote and no decision had been made.
Montreal May 24 One of the largest shipments of Canadian cattle to reach the port aboard the Irishman from Birkenhead. The consignment includes mainly Ontario store cattle averaging about 1160 pounds. Fire destroyed Oakville Basket plant and Dominion Wire Bond Box plant causing losses estimated at 290 thousand dollars.
Advices from Teheran report one thousand killed by an earthquake at Pourbattaidari near Turbat Lilaidari in Khorassan. Shocks lasted several hours as many villages were destroyed in this north central Iranian desert province.
In New York on May 29, Gabriel Acton- Pere was crushed to death as Macksmith struck a moving machine with a sledge hammer in a failed rescue attempt. Nearby neighbor Mrs. Augustina Scuilla collapsed and died from shock following the tragedy.
