The first large shipment of horses from this section to the east left this morning for Winnipeg. It included two gates of the skidoo number each. Charles Tow sent 23 horses east and Harry Cherkober sent the same amount. Live Stock Commissioner Bray inspected the lot and voiced satisfaction with their high quality.
El Paso May 29. Francisco J. Madero reports a plotted bid to topple him and halt his march to Mexico City. Daniel Devillieres of Mexico City and W F P Dunn, an American, were arrested after a detective traced them from El Paso to Montey. The plot involved payments to Madero’s military leaders. Madero says he was alerted and the plan was allowed to proceed.
Windsor Ontario May 2 Reverend F R Boudoin pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Church was severely burned while trying to extinguish a fire on the church after a funeral. As mourners gathered the draperies caught fire from a candle. He tore down the burning gauze saving a panic with minimal damage reported.
Ottawa May 29. A meeting of Canadian Trades and Labor Councils executives discussed Calgary convention details. Attendees included President Wm. G. Locking of Toronto Gus Franq of Montreal and P. M. Deper of Ottawa. The convention will open between September 21 and 26 on a day to be set.
In Medicine Hat police court Hardy Bishop Charles Wilson and Walter Rogers were fined one dollar each for shooting firecrackers on May 24. A separate intoxication case resulted in a three dollar fine and work in lieu. Robert Wilson faced deportation options after his drunken conduct and past police court records.
Two German torpedo boats arrived at Kiel in damaged condition after a collision near Skigen Denmark. One sailor was killed. The report notes inquiries at Potter & Hilliard 366 Toronto Street.

Newark Ohio May 29 The case of Art Dover indicted in the Etherington lynching last July was called for trial before Judge Nicholas. Dover offered a guilty plea to manslaughter but the judge refused as he is said to have incited the mob at the time of the lynching.

At the Agricultural Society directors meeting James Fleming presided as Ed Hassard and other officers attended. Ad sat reportedly refused 29500 for 100 ft Main street frontage at Fifth Avenue corner. Ginther sold southwest quarter of 21 to Crump of Edmonton at 150 per acre, earning 16000. Lowes Co Calgary via local manager Knapfel bought SE quarter 26 from John Robinson for 50000.
Secretary Kenny of the Alberta Sunday School Association spoke at Knox Presbyterian church on the growth of Sunday schools in the province. He highlighted many new schools opened in recent years and urged parental cooperation and home lesson teaching. Forty new Sunday schools were organized in Southern Alberta during the past year.
Denver report says a west bound Burlington train crashed near Mc Cook Nebraska on May 29 with thirty persons reported killed or injured. The article notes the number as reported at the scene and details are unavailable from the brief dispatch.
Mr J L Peacock sent two year old Suffolk Punch stallion Lavenham to Fort Benton Montana to join his Rocking Chair brand herd. The import originated in Suffolk England and the horse won first prize at Medicine Hat Stallion Show this spring. Peacock will travel with the horse to the Montana ranch.
Jonesboro Illinois May 29 The case of A C Bankston former sheriff of Pulaski County who shot and killed night Sergeant French of the Cairo police force was called for trial in Union County circuit court The killing occurred in Cairo on December 3 last and the case was moved on change of venue The trial is expected to draw wide attention due to the principals prominence in the tragedy
A Saturday test by City Engineer Grimmer Gas Superintendent Craft with Mayor Milne Alderman Pingle James Fleming Dr Hargrave and News observer found no dampness in the Hargrave gas well. The well currently feeds eight homes in Altawana from the 600 foot level until a regulator is installed to use the main flow.
The Iowa organization of the Catholic Total Abstinence Union met in Clinton for its annual state convention. Archbishop Keane of Dubuque serves as honorary president. Speakers included Rev. W. J. McNamee of Joliet Rev. P. J. O'Callaghan of Chicago and Very Rev. E. J. Dougherty of Mason City.

Dubuque Iowa May 29 three men are under arrest on suspicion they know something about an incendiary fire that caused 250000 damage in the Standard Lumber Co yards and 460000 to other property. A 5000 dollar reward is offered for the arrest and conviction of the men believed to have set the blaze.

New York May 27 Everything is ready for the Friars Frolic tour opening at the New Amsterdam theatre tomorrow night. The all star company directed by A L Erlanger and George M Cohan will visit Atlantic City Philadelphia Baltimore Pittsburgh Cleveland Cincinnati St Louis Chicago Detroit Rochester Buffalo and Boston before two final New York performances June 8. The traveling company features Cohan Collier Fields Weber Hitchcock Dixey Evans Wills Dockstader Primrose Corigan Barrymore Cohan De Haven Edwards Mack Foy Be ban Rock Kelly Marshall Niblo and others. The program includes a minstrel first part an olio and an afterpiece by George M Cohan.
Washington May 27 A heroic bronze of Tom Moore the Irish poet was unveiled in the Corporen Art Gallery on the eve of the 132nd anniversary of his birth. The bust commemorates the poet's 1804 visit to the city.
The Typographical Union No. 461 elected Robt. Collier as president and Geo. Thompson as vice president. Ed. McB. Forbes is recording secretary with B. W. Bellamy as treasurer. The group endorsed a Labor Day celebration via the Trades and Labor Council, favors a labor speaker, and scheduled a printers picnic with a potential Red Cliff outing on July 1.
Oregon City May 29. Henry Heitkemper of Courtney raises purple potatoes on his farm south of Milwaukee. He planted German seed and produced an excellent crop. In Germany the potato is called Sunday, noted for flavor and mealiness. The skin is nearly black with a deep purple interior. It grows as a rootlike vine underground rather than in drills.
In Cadillac Michigan on May 29 ten year old Alan Coulson brought pistol caps to school. While teacher Miss Bessie Kidwell paddled him the caps exploded in his hip pocket causing his clothing to ignite. He sustained a slight burn but was not seriously injured.
North Adams Massachusetts May 29 One girl has been expelled from the late normal school and five others face a similar fate. A midnight chafing dish party led to fudge being lowered from a third floor window to young men acquaintances. A second helping reached Principal Murdoch. Disciplinary measures followed.
Dids Winnipeg May 29. A. J. Tuckwell choirmaster of Christ's Church and longtime preparatory school conductor at Broadway and Edmonton died at his home this morning.
The firemen's convention planned for June 21 22 is postponed to July because out of town crews cannot attend on Coronation Day. Calgary's Cappy Smart informed Chief Hatcher of the postponement and noted strong local interest in the rescheduled event.
