Medicine Hat Speedway marks 40th season with weekend races
The Medicine Hat Speedway celebrated its 40th season with five race categories from mini cups to elite street stocks. Despite clouds and winds forcing a bouncy castle to be deflated, over two dozen heats proceeded with youth racing and adult heat draws. Club president Curtis Bigelow highlighted the Davis GMC elite streets heat as the adrenaline peak, while plans include the S&E Automotive Metal Mayhem derby on June 15 and the Minuteman Press Street Stocks Invitational on August 10. Community volunteers and sponsors keep the track alive amid the celebration.

Local Racing Winners Crowned Across Jeep Ram and Related Classes
Main event winners include Standard Jeep Ram with Jonathan Rissling first, Shane Goldie second, and Jesse Voeller third. In Hobby, Trevor Neigum took first with Les Neigum second and Curtis Bigelow third. Just Smok'n V6 saw Feenix Fitzpatrick win, David Kerr second, Marcus Hieb third. City council to hold closed energy matter committee meeting
The city announces a committee of the whole session Wednesday will be closed to the public to discuss energy issues while the same meeting will feature a presentation on local governance accompanied by public access to rebroadcasts of the May 29 session. City leadership faces ongoing questions about transparency following a sanction of Mayor Linnsie Clark after a verbal altercation with city manager Ann Mitchell last summer. Clark seeks judicial review of the finding and questions handling of changes to city positions and reporting structure. Renowned municipal consultant George Cuff, former Spruce Grove mayor, will be featured. he has previously advised Medicine Hat and led a provincial inquiry into Chestermere this year.
