Ottawa May 27 The House of Commons debated the conference report on Dominion legislation and merchant shipping. Hon Ernset Lapointe moved approval and explained the conference conclusions. Critics urged provincial consultation and questioned timing. voices from Liberal, Conservative and Labor benches discussed self governance for India and Canada's equality of status within the Commonwealth.
Independent dispatches from Shanghai report a crushing three day campaign in Northern Henan. Rebel forces with about 200000 troops led by Kween Chenchew and Lanfeng struck the nationalist government, breaking lines and forcing Kwayee to yield.
William Thomas Juggins, previously held at Battleford asylum, survives after slashing his throat with a pocket knife and then stepping in front of a CN railway engine near Saskatoon on May 27. Prompt medical aid and engine brakes prevented a fatal outcome.
Winnipeg grain inspections list 1252 cars of wheat on record yesterday 715 compared with last year 1180. Contracts show 62 and 142 cars for oars barley 16 and 78 flax 14 and 6 rye 16 and 12 mixed grains 2 and 6 and serrenings 0 and 2.

Lang opens the proceedings then McDonald addresses Redcliff electors at 7 30 that same evening. The program includes musical items by the Young Liberal Club.
Manitoba reports scattered showers leaving fields damp though most areas saw light rain. Dauphin posted the province's heaviest rainfall at about half an inch while other points ranged from one tenth to a quarter inch. Lloydminster recorded about two thirds of an inch in Saskatchewan, with Grande Prairie in Alberta noting nearly two and a half inches. Warmer, dry weather forecast for the prairies.

London May 27 The King will miss the third court of the season at Buckingham Palace tonight and tomorrow because of localized rheumatism in the right hip. An official statement says the condition is not serious and not related to the King’s recent illness. The King hopes to resume engagements later in the week.

Pilot Sergt. R. M. Pike of the Royal Canadian Air Force died when his aircraft from Montreal crashed near Ottawa in the early afternoon. The crash demolished the machine and the cause was not determined. Pike, a Vancouver native, was 20 or 21 years old.
Cobourg Ontario May 27 Robert Johnston 21 sole survivor of a dawn crash involving six Johnson family members from Hamilton said there was no signal man at the crossing from the moment the car came into view until the fatal collision with a west bound Canadian National engine. He spoke in a Toronto newspaper interview.
The Teachers and Management committee recommended raising the school entry age. Beginning September 1 1930 pupils are to be admitted only if they are six years old by December 5, ensuring all new entrants meet the age requirement for Medicine Hat schools.
London May 2 The death occurred today of Lord Ashton first baron and prominent Liberal. formerly James Williamson aged 81. He owned immense nickel works and dynasty of wealth funded major charitable donations.
John McKenzie of Lettsbridge faced a preliminary hearing on a theft charge. The accused was remanded for trial with bail set at $1,000. Prosecution alleges he took $100 from a Bowmanton farmer’s pocket last Friday.
In 1920 about 2,775,000 acres were taken over by homesteaders in Canada, rising 285,000 acres from 1928 levels. The note links land hunger to settlement patterns and government land policies of the era.
