U S Government Orders Increase in All Freight and Passenger Rates
Washington May 27 Director General McAdoo ordered a 26 percent rise in railroad freight rates and a passenger rate increase to three cents a mile from about 212 cents. The changes, effective June 15 for freight and June 10 for passengers, are expected to add 800 to 900 million dollars in revenue next year. This is the largest rate increase in railroad history.
