Byron Harpell of Endon was shot in the side and skull as he fed horses in a hayloft. Neighbors aided, Sergeant Harper tracked down J J Lawson at the Mounted Police barracks and charged him with attempted murder. Harpell’s bullet was to be removed at City Hospital. Lawson is alleged to have fired the shot in a longstanding dispute.
