The team will play at McNichols Arena and then move to the Pepsi Centre. Marcel Aubut and other owners supported the deal amid labor fund participation. Supreme Court rules custodial child support taxed in Canada

The Supreme Court of Canada rules custodial parents must pay income tax on child support payments. Susan Thibaudeau, a divorced social worker, argued her $1,150 monthly support should not be taxed. The ruling ends refunds of taxes collected on support to custodial parents, mostly women. Justice Minister Allan Rock promises proposals to make the system fairer. The court sided with the government 5-2, overturning a lower finding of discrimination. Thibaudeau laments that laws favor men and notes the narrow, gendered impact of the tax.
