Bulgarian news agency reports that passengers on a hijacked Turkish Airlines DC-9 in Burgas overpowered captors after 30 hours and freed themselves. At least five Americans were among the 91 remaining aboard as negotiations continued.
Police commandos freed about 70 hostages unharmed at the Central Bank of Barcelona after a 37 hour siege. One of 11 gunmen was killed. remaining captors were captured and the attackers were described as professional criminals, not linked to security forces.
David Lewis 71 longtime NDP leader from 1971 to 1975 dies after an eight year leukemia battle. He will be buried in Ottawa on Tuesday.
