Dozens were wounded and several killed as a general strike against Morales Bermudez government price hikes paralyzed Lima and Callao. Curfew and troop orders to shoot without passes followed clashes with police, with violence spreading to Huancavelica and La Oroya.
AP reports a flock of chickens invaded Chicago’s north side causing alarm. Harold Ruther describes rounds where 14 chickens hid in a townhouse unit and later 21 roamed a vacant apartment while officers catch and remove them to a farm outside the city.
The Senate commerce committee endorsed the 1978 U S Canada reciprocal fishing accord but signaled possible changes before full Senate approval. The deal would extend 1977 terms and allow British Columbia fishermen broader salmon trolling in U S waters, though U S resistance over Swiftsure Bank closure and Canadian noncompliance could block opening.
