Shanghai dispatches quote Chinese reports from lgiping alleging a Japanese air squadron bombed areas around Chinchow in southeast Manchuria killing 1,000 farmers and destroying twenty villages after a refusal to surrender arms. It says hundreds injured and many villages still burning, though unconfirmed by other sources.
E W Beatty chairman and president of the Pacific Railway spoke to the Canadian Political Science Association in Montreal outlining a plan for a unified system to allow Canada to anticipate a reasonable period for a balanced railway budget. He proposed financing growth extensions and development through a well managed system.
Mr Beatty presents a sweeping survey on the Canadian Transportation Problem tracing physical and political events leading to the alarming CN debt and arguing for unified private administration after 15 years of study. He cites a 1933 railway debt of 2.8958 billion dollars, calling for urgent control and reduction to aid national finances.
In Ottawa on May 23 the Frasier bill to legalize hospital sweepstakes failed in the House of Commons by 105 to 67. The defeat followed party-line cross voting and mirrored last year’s outcome. Minister Guthrie proposed two changes to sweepstakes provisions, arguing winnings should go to the Crown rather than an informer, and suggested raising the $20 ticket fine.

Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker were killed when their speeding car refused to halt six miles from Arcadia Shreveport. A posse led by Frank Hamner fired as the couple reached for machine guns. the car crashed on an embankment. Barrow faced crimes including kidnappings and bank robberies.
An airplane burning after takeoff in Inglewood killed Ruth H Converse of Glendale Rob C Sitzman Jr of Los Angeles and Kenneth P Gardner a second lieutenant in the Army Air Reserve Corps Los Angeles.
In Edmonton on May 23 the jury returned a not guilty verdict for Frank Conradson in the murder of Carl Anderson, storekeeper at Buck Creek last November. His son Edward was acquitted on the same charge last week.
One hundred white apricot seedlings were presented this morning by the Department of Lands and Mines, per T. F. Blefgen, director of forestry. The seedlings will be planted in the new park on the north side in response to a request by Mr. F. Blackburn, city clerk.

In Koktebel Crimea on May 23 Soviet Russia reports a historic air train flight completing the first long distance journey of its kind. The craft and three gliders landed after detaching in midair with a perfect landing. The hop began at Zaporozhie where bad weather forced an earlier landing.
Miss Joan Batten of New Zealand established a new women’s record for the England to Australia flight, landing in Darwin after completing the route in about 19 days, beating the previous 19 day mark set by Mrs. Amy Mollison in 1930.
In Belgrade on May 23 gendarmes ended a two day siege of the university by striking students using bayonets and clubs. About 215 students were jailed, including 35 girls, amid reports of beatings and torture, drawing parental outrage. Newsmen observed two girls led to jail with injuries from police blows.
