Alderman Montgomerie toured the C N R Medicine Hat to Hanna stretch and found about a hundred men at work on the bridge over the Red Deer River. Quicksand concerns are being resolved and the engineer said the project would be rushed to completion. Farmers expect rails to Red Cliff soon and Ottawa word is awaited.
Ottawa on March 23 Cana Press reports there will be no legislation this session on extradition of wife deserters seeking refuge in the United States. Justice Minister Doherty told the commons the embassy message was erroneous and ratification of the treaty depended on an amendment. The government withdrew the bills on the extradition treaty from the order paper.
Registration for the by election is available this week only. Voters must register at designated offices: G W V A Clubrooms for north of the rail line, C F Hall west of the river and between the river Belfast Street and Sixth Street, and Crysler's Store east of Belfast Street to the city limits. All persons 21 or older born on this continent may register. Foreign born non naturalized or non British subjects must apply for certificates. Certificate issuance time to be announced later.
Lightning hit a Montreal street car on Ontario near Moreau during a storm yesterday afternoon. The car caught fire and an unidentified woman suffered a fractured skull while a girl sustained a fractured arm in the panic.
In Alexandria, Egypt, from May 23, five Europeans were killed and two wounded in a riot that intensified overnight. British troops arrived and took charge as mobs burned buildings and ambulances ferried the wounded. Europeans sought protection at government offices amid mounting fires and closed shops.

The Royal Grain Inquiry Commission will hold a meeting in Medicine Flat on Monday June 6 at 10 a.m. Topics include grading and weighing grain handling in country elevators and country points grain exchanges financing of grain handling at terminals charges for elevators and the operation of public and private facilities lake shipments and grain shipments to Atlantic and Pacific ports.

Ottawa May 23 The House Committee on railways and canals approved the bill to incorporate the Edmonton and Mackenzie River Railway Company with capital of 810 000. It will extend the Alberta and Great Waterways system from Fort Murray to Great Slave Lake with Imperial Oil Company substantial support. Promoters expect no subsidy and no government subsidy or sale of the road.
