Redcliff Blasts CPR Express Services

Redcliff merchants accuse CPR of indifference to express freight, after a protest by Redcliff Board of Trade. Secretary George J. Hawrelak says CPR has cut express service by over 50 percent since April 29 and claims shipments are rerouted to Calgary or Bassano, delaying deliveries. The board demands CPR deliver express from Medicine Hat to Redcliff on Tuesday to Thursday, with the issue to be sent to See REDCLIFF page 12.

Deadly Farm Tractor Accidents Reported in Prairie Provinces

farm deaths include Dan Kis sellback 42 crushed when tractor overturned near Yorkton. John Barisenko farmer of Rabbit Lake district died when his tractor slid into a coulee. Ernest Davis 21 died in St Boniface hospital after emergency chest surgery as coroner orders autopsy.

Widow and children awarded 39000 in Roberts crash judgment

The widow Adeline Roberts and her three children win 39000 in Queen's Bench damages from William and Cecil Semchyshyn over photographer Gordon Roberts's death in a May 13, 1955 crash. The inquest found the Semchyshyn car ran a stop sign.

Phosphate Rock To Start Rolling Here In July

Installation is in progress at the Northwest plant to handle phosphate rock. First shipments expected by July 1 for the ammonium phosphate unit, with rock coming from the Centennial mine in Spencer Idaho owned by Simplot Co. Contract calls for about 400 tons daily and 140000 tons in the first year.

Six Years For Express Theft in Edmonton

Edward Morris Gagne, 21, was sentenced to six years in penitentiary for theft of 44 300 in cash from a Canadian National Express delivery truck in Edmonton. The youth, a messenger aboard the truck, had pleaded guilty after magistrate F W Barclay denied his request to change plea to not guilty, ruling no evidence showed he was hurried into pleading or misled by police into wishing a light sentence.
