The Liberal party was re-elected to a 30-seat PEI legislature winning 26 seats while Conservatives took 4. Premier Thane Campbell secured a second term as party leaders W J P MacMillan and a former premier failed to win seats. Cabinet members Bradford W LePage and T W L Prowse were defeated.
A Canadian Legion meeting outlines May 26 plans for disabled ex service men seating, special runway rates for relatives for the Edmonton provincial convention May 29 to June 3, and upcoming lawn bowling events May 20 21 and 24. Entries close May 20. King and Queen buttons and legion regalia available from the secretary or stewards. Nomination of Communist candidates in nine Saskatchewan ridings to begin soon.
Premier William Aberhart urged Alberta and Canada to vote for economic and democratic freedom within 14 months noting the next federal election. He predicted a possible New Democracy surge led by W. J. Herridge and called for movement-wide support for Social Credit aims.
In four hours the House of Commons approved 57.6 million dollars to finish defence estimates totaling 63 million, a peacetime record. Debate touched on the Army Act and capital offences, with Finance Minister Dunning introducing an income tax exemption proposal for 10 percent of new capital expenditures over three to six years. The session ended before final debate on the resolution.

Amoy China May 19 Japanese landing party in Kulangsu faced a three to one force from British American and French troops. Forty two Japanese sailors were pinned at their hospital as French marines joined British and American sailors in enforcing the occupation while hunting slavers.
A Calgary gathering reports that hardly any Social Credit group remains in rural Alberta constituencies. M.L.A. A. E. B. McLellan and three peers call for truth and action while criticizing caucus control. Cockroft promises to address provincial issues before the next election.

Calgary May 19 A Imperial Oil official testified at the McGillivray royal commission that he could not explain why posted Turner Valley crude field prices remained unchanged since January 1938 despite changed pricing conditions. He said the price had been set by a 1938 calculation against Montana crude, and current Manitoba market shifts and U S oil displacement have left Turner Valley out of the pricing picture. The commission seeks a fair and equitable field price for Turner Valley crude.
Toronto May 19 Igor Sikorsky told engineers and allied societies that airplanes capable of carrying 100 passengers on weekend North Pole cruises and seven day world trips are engineering realities. He said plans for 100 ton clipper ships have been completed and manufacturers could guarantee performance.
